"Admin a big concern."

About: Derriford Hospital

My wife, who has since very sadly passed away, received radiotherapy and chemo at Derriford for secondary breast cancer. The consultant and his team and the nurses involved were excellent . However, the general level of admin ranged from poor to , at times, quire appalling. The right hand didn't seem to have any idea what the left was doing. We had a 100 mile round trip on each visit and were sometimes faced with extremely long waiting times not only when arriving but also departing. Worst of all though, a week after her treatment was stopped and she was sent home, we had a phone call to book her next chemo session - they were totally unaware of the situation. Then, about a fortnight after she passed away, two seperate appointments to attend for treatment arrived in the post. This was most distressing for us and totally inexcusable.

Dear Paulp,

Thank you for your communication and I am very sorry to hear of your recent experiences with Derriford Hospital. May I express my sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your wife. In order to be able to investigate we would require more information. I wonder if you would be kind enough to contact PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) on 01752 439884 to discuss this further.

Best wishes

Genny
