"Excellent care from Breast Unit team and Philip..."

About: Royal United Hospital

I write as someone with more that 30 years experience of hospital management. My wife is also a member of one of the clinical professions. Neither of us has had any working relationship with the RUH. I say this to make the point that although completely impartial we both know what to look for and expect (and what can go wrong) n outpatient and inpatient hospital care. The care my wife has experienced in the Breast Clinic, from the Breast unit nursing and medical team and in Philip Yeoman ward has been as good as we would have expected to observe in the London teaching hospitals both of us have worked for. The attention of staff to sympathetic communication and reassurance was particularly impressive. My wife has been properly consulted and involved in all significant decisions. The process from referral through clinic visits to diagnosis and admission and surgery was swift and efficient. The adherence to good practice and protocols appears thorough and consistent. Everybody we have met has done their job professionally and with kindness but the Breast Clinic and the wonderful Breast Nurses deserve special praise. This is not the end of my wife's treatment and the joys of chemo and radio therapy await but on the basis of our experience so far, anyone referred to the RUH Breast Clinic by their GP can be confident that they will receive excellent care.
