About: Grantham & District Hospital

(as the patient),

Anything else?

Sharing my mothers’ experience of Grantham and District Hospital.

My mothers is 80 years old this year, and one year ago (Summer 2007), her doctor informed her that she would need a knee operation, the appointment she/they made to have the operation was back in October 2007, once in hospital they discovered that my mother had a bladder infection and because of this, it was not possible for her have an operation.

They sent back to her local doctor and told that, she would receive a new appointment for the knee operation as soon as the bladder infection has disappeared, it would take around three months.

The bladder infection cleared up within the three months and her doctor told her that he would make a new appointment with Grantham Hospital, this was around spring 2008, so that she could find out when, it would be possible for Grantham Hospital to perform the her knee operation.

She finally got a new appointment to visit the hospital in October 2008, one year later.

At the interview / check up she was told that she was over weight and now she must loose around one stone, within six weeks or they can’t do the operation.

This is all in all a very disturbing experience for an 80 year old lady who now, is very worried about meeting the requirement laid out by the doctor, they also haven’t told her what would or would not happen if she doesn’t loose the weight.

There also has never been an explanation why it’s taken so long, and when she asked the doctor never answered at all.

This e-mail has been written by the patient son,

Yours Sincerely

Simon.
