"Excellent care except by main midwife"

I have just come back home after the birth of my second baby at the Rosie. As it was the first time, the care was exceptional, everyone was very supportive, except for a few things which I want to flag. My waters broke on Friday night and went to get a check up at the Rosie, where i was told that I needed to go back home as I wasn't in labour, and come back if the labour starts naturally and if not, then I was to call at 9:00 pm the following night for an induction. I am aware that there is a risk of infection if the labour does not start automatically 18 hours after waters break,which was confirmed after my baby was born my a midwife at Rosie. Still they seemed to be ok to call me at 9:00 the following night which was well after 18 hours, how is this safe for my baby? Anyway I was very keen to get an epidural and asked if this can be provided and I was told yes, I also said that second babies labour can progress quickly and I won't have time for epidural, and the response I got was this is not certain so we can't keep u here because they need beds for women in active labour. Fair enough, I went home and got into very quick labour next day at about 3:00 pm, and by the time I was in Rosie and the midwife came after 10 minutes, I was fully dilated and told to push as there was no time for epidural. This is also fine,but I do have to say that the midwife who came for my labour was not very supportive, she kept slapping my leg back when I had no strength to hold it up and also mentioned that she had a bad back to do anything else except talk through the labour, including holding my hand! I was in a lot of pain and I understand that this is common for her to see everyday, but a little bit of compassion would have gone a long way. I was also biting my finger and bleeding and my husband had to ask what can be done for this rather than her suggesting anything at all. She also seemed to completely change her attitude once there was someone else in the room. Wouldn't it have been better if she showed that she had a bit more patience with someone in a lot of pain? I did apologise to the team for being so vocal during my labour but really a supportive midwife would have made a lot of difference. If labour and women in pain annoy her, then she shouldn't be doing this job at all. I hope she gets to see this review. Rest of the staff there was absolutely brilliant, except the midwife sent for my labour. Thanks for the after care at the Rosie as well.
