"told cant have new product which works due to budget"

I obtained several samples of some new caths following my mitro operation. these new caths were brilliant so discreet in my handbag and made me feel more confident about being out in public and attending events.

normal 40cm male caths kink so the new pocket cath which is coiled meant it was easier to use.

I was told due to budget I couldn't get these and that they felt there might be cheaper products and that they felt this didn't meant my needs.

as you can imagine being told I was a budget strain and they know my needs more than I do drives me insane

I've just been in touch with the prescribing lead in Rotherham CCG, and he has passed on the following information, which I hope will be of use to you.

'Its unfortunate that the service has not met your expectations.

There is however no restriction on the sort of appliances available to patients just based on costs. Many areas do operate restrictive formulas based on cost but Rotherham does not.

All appliances are evaluated by the specialist nurses before they are prescribed to patients. This is a vital step in the process, as there have been several recent incidents of new appliances failing and causing problems to patients. This can mean a slight delay between new products coming onto the market and them being made available to patients; however you can rest assured that we do all we can to ensure the best, safest and most reliable products are available to Rotherham patients as soon as possible.
