"Car Parking a Shambles"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I have had the misfortune to visit relatives staying in the hospital and even taking a relative to A&E late at night. The car parking system keeps changing from year to year so you have to be on your toes to understand the latest system. Not easy when your taking people to A&E late at night. Whatever the car park system is on a given month the more serious the situation is the more you pay. Coming out of the hospital at 1.00am in the morning to find your the only car in the car park but still get charged £4.00 is a enough to make you ill.

Dear Mr Thirlwall, Thanks for sharing this. I'm sorry that your recent trip to A&E left you feeling so frustrated with the parking arrangements. We have had to make to a couple of changes to the parking system in the last year and I can appreciate that this can present some challenges and confusion, particularly if you are visiting late at night with a sick relative. Can I reassure you that our recent decision to change the parking system only occurred as a result of listening to the views of our patients and their families who were unhappy with the new approach. Previous to this change in 2013, the same system had been in place since 2004. I accept that parking charges of any kind are a contentious issue. We do make every effort to be fair with our charges. They have not changed since 2012 and we regularly test them both locally and nationally to ensure that we are one of the lowest . With best wishes, Annie
