"We will never go back if we can avoid it"

About: King's College Hospital (Denmark Hill) / Paediatrics Medway Maritime Hospital / Paediatric surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My baby was misdiagnosed and was being prepared for surgery. She was nil by mouth for two days. Surgeon was on holiday and we were waiting for a bed to come up at a London hospital where our baby would have been operated on straightaway. Got transferred and Kings Hospital did their own investigation which involved a ultra sound. The ultra sound at Kings took an hr and and it took maybe 10 mins at Medway. We were told at Kings that our daughter did not have pyloric stenosis and that she did not need surgery. If that surgeon wasn't on holiday, our daughter would have had unnecessary surgery. She went through so much in Medway with IV lines, blood gases etc. We are very very angry and we will never go back to Medway with our daughter if we can avoid it. This was our 8 week old baby. She also had been admitted for the second time and they did not seem to help us at all.

I am sorry to hear of your distress regarding the disgnosis and management of the symptoms of your baby in two differing hospitals.

I am sorry, I think what you are saying is that Kings College Hospital offered a differing diagnosis to another hospital but if you do have questions about the diagnosis at Kings and wish to have any investigation please do not hesitate to contact our PALS service kch-tr.pals@nhs.net
