"If you visit this department you will be treated like a queen"

My partner had an appointment with the colposcopy clinic and was a little worried about what to expect, like if it would be painful what the examination would entail etc.

I had done some research around the internet and explained what would happen but obviously it didn't really ease her worries.

Well we went today and I must admit I was very surprised with the whole experience. Unfortunately myself and family members have had some very bad experiences with Sandwell Hospital and albeit some time ago it tends to stick in your mind and gives you a perception of what to expect.

Maybe it's because it's a different department different staff etc, but the staff at the colposcopy suite were fantastic. They were extremely professional, courteous, friendly, informative, and very attentive. They explained exactly what would be happening and what to expect and if at any point my partner wasn't happy for some reason to say and they would stop and address the issue.

I really can't praise these ladies enough and very importantly they were not condescending and didn't talk down to my partner which happens quite regularly at hospitals. Although they were all female which softened the examination they were very strong about respecting my partners dignity with a private changing area and asking my partner if she wanted me present even though we have been together 20 years and have children. Also even at the end of the examination when my partner went back to the changing area the nurse even made a point of pulling my partners gown round her to cover her modesty while In front of me and the staff. It made me smile but I thought what a nice thing to do.

I don't ever do reviews and feel we are always quick to criticise but never quick to compliment and I honestly have to say the staff that dealt with my partner today were amazing people and so happy and bubbly they really did make a not so pleasant examination go with ease. My partner was a little worried when we arrived and after talking to the staff you could see how relaxed she felt and a lot more at ease.

The staff at the colposcopy suite are a massive credit to the hospital and if only a little of their attitude and personality was to rub off on other staff in the hospital it would be a great place to be treated.

I would like to give a very big thank you to the staff who treated my partner today and although it's just an every day thing for the staff it can be a very big thing for the patient and today you were fantastic and really made a massive difference to us and for that I'm very grateful and appreciate all you did today. You should be very proud of the outstanding level of service you gave today and all I can say is thanks.
