The practise of sleepouts is, in my opinion, the one thing that causes most delays in treatment and in the intake of new patients. On the ward that I was on, six or seven beds were taken up by doing this.
One day, a surgeon came on to Lister 1 shouting at the nurses - it was very unprofessional; at the very least he should have gone into the office and shut the door behind him. He stated that he had lost 2 or 3 hours of operating time but his shouting wasn't going to solve the problem - it just makes the nurses feel bad.
