I had to take my husband, who has an advanced prostate cancer plus Parkinson's disease, to Southmead A & E for an emergency catheter change. Having seen various reports I was dreading going but was very surprised and happy with the visit. I was able to park outside the department, I was pleased to see a car park attendant helping with parking. I was able to register my husband within five minutes even though there were a lot of patients. We were called within ten minutes by a charming nurse who wheeled my husband straight into a very clean, pleasant treatment room. A doctor came from Urology within ten minutes, sorted my husband out and we were on our way back home in less than an hour. Full marks to Southmead A & E. There are only three minor points I would like to make. Firstly there appears to be no signs for A&E at the motorway junction. Secondly, when turning into the hospital there is a small traffic island, the warning bollard is missing and it is too easy to dangerously run over the kerb (this was missing back in December and I almost had an accident as it was dark) and thirdly in A & E department it might help if the nurses could use a loud speaker to call people, it was difficult to hear.
