My mother was recently a patient in ward 9 Wishaw General admitted with acute confusion secondary to an unknown infection. I don't normally take the time to comment on a patient experience but I'm making an exception here.
From the time she was admitted her care was excellent not only from medical and nursing staff but the domestic staff giving out the tea and coffee. One in particular remembered exactly how my mother liked her coffee, given a ward full of patients I thought that was pretty impressive!
There is a real warmth about the ward and a feeling that you are being treated as an individual. Staff are very friendly and understanding. I felt that my mother was treated with dignity and respect given she was a bit of a challenge to them during her confusion.
Staff made a real effort to find out what my mother was like before her illness. The communication between nursing, physio, and occupational therapy is coordinated so well and you can see its a real team effort. Sister Morrison is very knowledgeable, approachable and hands on. I would say she has a real passion for her ward which seems to transfer to the rest of the staff. The ward is spotlessly clean and I would have no concerns if my mother had to be admitted again.
Ten out of Ten .
I would also like to mention the A&E department who dealt with my mother so quickly and efficiently. She had all blood tests and x rays carried out, reported and a decision to admit her meant she was in the ward within an hour. Great stuff.
