"The short period which I spent ..."

About: Nuffield Diagnostic Centre

(as the patient),

What I liked

The short period which I spent in the Blood Clinic waiting area on this occasion, being that I attended during the afternoon which is generally less busy.

What could be improved

The nature of the 'patient ticket' service.

Anything else?

My comments today relate to my visit to the Blood Sample Clinic. I liked the new numerical ‘tear off ticket’ system which is more appropriate than the previous system. I am sure that these are ‘early days’ but would hope that this facility would be reviewed over time – perhaps a safeguard facility to prevent more than one ticket being released. I would prefer a printing company based in Corby, Northants rather than London for producing these ‘tickets’. I think the local labour force should be utilised when improvements to our quality of life in Corby is concerned being that printing companies do exist in Corby.

I also liked the Patient number being displayed as red LED digits as presented by a wall-mounted display unit. However, I think the display unit would work better if it were mounted on the opposite side of the room, close to the entrance which leads on to the actual room itself. I also think that the high pitched buzz which the display unit discharges ‘on call’ needs to be adapted – perhaps a lower tone (baratone type) would be more appropriate and less likely to cause patients to ‘jolt’. I would like to see fewer posters mounted on the wall which may generate a confusing mix of information.

In addition, I thought that the wired cage positioned around the wall-mounted panel heater by the reception desk is too deep and should be modified to approximately half of this depth. The current depth intrudes overmuch into the path of a ‘passer-by’ and may incur a health and safety risk; should a Patient accidentally make contact with the cage which may not be necessary in the first instance, being that panel heaters do not constitute a health and safety hazard. The corners of this cage appear far too sharp and may cause problems as well as them being unsightly.
