"Excellent care from community matron and district nurse"

About: Central Lancashire PCT / Community nursing North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust Southport & Formby District General Hospital

(as a carer),

The current community matron comes to visit every month and is very good. The previous ones have provided excellent care for my husband. When we have used the ambulance service to visit the hospital they have provided a very good and efficient service. The only problem is travelling to Southport Hospital has been problematic as we had to pay £26 for a taxi once. It is also difficult for relatives to visit. The nearest hospital to us is in Omskirk and would be an easier option for us. Lastly, the local GP at Lathon House surgery has been very helpful.

Dear Plaid230

Your comments about the Community Matron Service that your husband receives are encouraging. I will ensure that these are passed on to the Community Matron Team as it is important that staff who work in the NHS are made aware of any compliments made about the care they provide.

What I am perhaps a bit less encouraged by is your experience of travelling to and from a hospital, which would not be your preferred choice. It is difficult for me to comment further on this without more detail about your husband's condition and his reason for needing to go to Southport Hospital. What I suggest is that you could discuss this with your Matron when you next have a visit or alternatively talk to your husband's GP to see whether he can go to Ormskirk instead.

Alternatively, the Patient Advice and Liaison Service at NHS Central Lancashire is there to provide information, advice and support to patients, their carers and relatives about their healthcare. You can contact them on 0800 032 24 24.
