"Unexpected visit to A&E"

About: East Surrey Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I was advised by the duty doctor at my surgery to go to hospital as I had a suspected kidney infection with a fever and chills. It came on very suddenly after I had already been treated for a bout of cystitis. I felt very poorly.

The accident and emergency department was quiet at 5 o'clock on a Friday evening. I was in a bed in the department by about 7. I had blood tests, urine tests, an x Ray, a saline drip and an antibiotic drip and prescription to take home, all by 10 o' clock!

I had the choice to stay in hospital if I had wanted.

All I can say is the NHS is at it's best at times like this. All the staff were pleasant and kind.

Dear mumof5

Many thanks for posting such a complimentary story about the emergency department here at East Surrey Hospital.

It's really good to read that your felt so well looked after and I know my colleagues in the ED department will be pleased to read your story.

Kind regards

Ian

It is a pleasure Ian,

I think the stories that hit the news headlines that are less complimentary are the exception rather than the rule.

It seems to me that more people need to appreciate how very lucky we are to have access to free treatment for all.
