"Brilliant staff, relaxing stay"

About: Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital

In October I spent 3 nights in the hospital following surgery for a herniated disc. From the very start, when I was referred to a pain specialist, then to a neurosurgeon, I couldn't have wished for better care and attention. The Reception and out-patient staff are terrific; helpful, friendly, supportive. At the start of my stay everyone who I had dealings with were friendly, lots smiles and humour, made me feel totally relaxed. After the op I had a lot of pain but I never felt I was being a nuisance or wasting staff time when I buzzed for help. For the 1st day I needed help with walking, bathing etc and I was taken great care of with these. I was encouraged by many staff (who seemed to know my name) when I hobbled around the corridors on my crutches. I was due to stay for 2 days but there was a problem with my pain management so "my" nurse and the admin staff sorted everything with BUPA so I could stay an extra night in order for it to get sorted. I didn't have to do anything. It wasn't only the nursing staff who impressed me but everyone (cleaners, housekeeping, hostesses etc) was great. The only down I have is that my bin didn't get emptied at all during my stay (I wrote to the hospital about this, as well as complimenting them on my care). Not only was I looked after well, but the staff went out of their way to make sure my visiting friends were fine. The excellent care carried on when I had out-patient visits.
