What I liked

After a late diagnosis due to lack of investigations we were told my Uncle has terminal cancer.His life expectancy is days and not weeks, we have been told he has to go into a care~home to die!!!!! WHY in the policies for care for the dying written by Marie Curie, Macmillan, and the NHS end of life stategy it is stated a maintainence of dignity and respect should be given to the patient and familly and also they have the right to choose where to die, ie: home = hospital = carehome = hospice. this is actualy documented but these rights are being takenaway.......My dear sweet uncle is being thrown out with NO thought for his life or care for the family. I hasten to add his wife is 86 yrs old and restricted in travel as she has dementia (but she recognises and loves her husband) so they are going to seperate this couple at this very emotianal time. DOES ANYONE CARE..........or are they politly saying a dying man is a bed blocker!!!!!!!

What could be improved

Lots....proper discussion about pallative care on diagnosis with family.listening to the family.......Caring not only for the patient (my uncle) but caring for the family as well. Maybe the unit staff need to do an updated course in pallative care and invite the intimidating social workers with them.
