"Sarah Swift Ward & A&E - Overwhelmingly Excellent..."

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

My mum has a pre-existing lung condition and was admitted via A&E to Sarah Swift Ward on Friday 6th June with a chest infection. It was a very worrying time for her and the family as she was in a very poor way. From stepping through the door in A&E, it was clear the staff were so caring, attentive and friendly which continued at Ward level. Despite their hugely demanding roles, the staff made sure my mother was treated with respect and dignity and treated her as an individual. A great professional team work on this ward and it's so reassuring to see such competent warm staff who treat their patients like a member of their own family. Her discharge on Sunday was arranged without a hitch and it is down to this super team that her recovery was so quick and we are indebted to the staff and their care. Thank you so much. ps. Mum was a cook in her younger years and is a fussy eater (!) but enjoyed the food too which is an added bonus.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your and your mother’s experiences on Sarah Swift Ward and in A&E. I am happy to learn that, right from the start, the caring and friendly attitudes of our staff provided peace of mind at this worrying time. We know that discharge can be an especially challenging stage in a patient’s stay – and challenging for their loved ones too – and we have worked hard as a hospital to improve this process for everyone involved. We are very glad to hear that all ran smoothly on this occasion.
