"Access to services in the community"

About: NHS Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I live in Clydesdale South Lanarkshire and have only had good experiences within NHS Lanarkshire both GP and hosiptal visits.

My cause for concern is the lack of facilities we now have in and around Lanark. Almost shut down of Out of Hours service in Lanark and having to travel for almost an hour (by car) to Wishaw General Hospital. The

same for Diabetic eye screening, something that takes a few minutes and could easily be done in Lanark, is done in Wishaw which means I am travelling at least 2 hours there and back but it could be as little as half an hour to attend Lanark.

Dear cathy henderson,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us today.

NHS Lanarkshire is currently reviewing the Out Of Hours service and this has been on-going for a few months now. We are seeking feedback from members of the public, patients, staff, clinicians and managers to inform us and help shape our future services. If you are interested in contributing to this you can contact us via email: OOHreview@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

There is also a stakeholder event being organised for the 27th June 2014 and I can send you an information pack about this if you would like. You can contact me directly on 01698 858 292 or laura.bryan@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

I’ve passed on your comments about the Diabetic Retinal Screening Service in Lanark to the General Manager and hope to have more information about this for you shortly.

Many thanks

Laura

Dear cathy henderson,

There are no plans at the moment to locate the Diabetic Retinal Screening Service within Lanark. There is a need to make the best possible use of current staffing resources in a flexible manner. This allows us to ensure that our patients have access to sessions which are maintained all year round.

The Diabetes Retinal Screening (DRS) service currently provides screening clinics in four locations within the Lanarkshire area: Buchanan Centre, Coatbridge; Wishaw Health Centre; Orchard Street Medical Clinic, Hamilton; Central Health Centre, Cumbernauld

I appreciate that this means that some patients may need to travel to attend appointments and I’m sorry for the inconvenience this causes you.

If you would like any more information regarding this please feel free to contact June Currie, Diabetes Service Manager, who would be happy to help. She can be contacted on: 07766 763 240

Many thanks

Tom
