"Surgi Centre Never Again!!!!!"

About: Chase Farm Hospital

I can't believe that this place is still operating after the what we experienced as a family yesterday. My mum had to be in at 07.30 for foot fusion surgery and was the only patient in at this time. Upon arrival the Nursing staff were extremely helpful and throughout the time we cannot fault the care that they gave. My sister arrived by 11am thinking that my mum would have had her surgery by now as was first on the list and would be recovering. Upon arrival she was told that all surgeries may be cancelled as there was no anaesthetist booked, I mean this is a surgical centre we are talking about here and they have no anaesthetist? They advised that they were trying to find one!!! My mum suffers with severe Osteo Arthritis and degenerated discs of the spine and was left to sit in a chair all this time. Then finally we were told that yes the surgery was going ahead but one other person was before her. It got to 1.30pm and still no time had been given for how long it would be for my mums surgery. My mum was starting to feel very poorly due to not having any fluids since 5am and still was not given any!!!! My sister got very assertive at this point as another lady was told that she was next yet had booked in at 1pm so the Theatre manager came to speak to her and advised her that everyone has been waiting he had had a bad morning sitting in traffic and that his auntie was in hospital and had been waiting for an operation for a week and she could complain but wouldn't get anywhere. At this point my sister advised they either take my mum down for the operation now or we take her home. My mum was given now local anaesthetic in her foot so was in so much pain and no cast has been put on her foot so she has no support. this is the second foot she has had this surgery on in the last 5 months so we know what should had been done. I am so disgusted with the way my mum was just left yesterday and that the staff higher up thought that this was ok and also how now she is suffering and her recovery may be jeopardised due to the incompetences of the staff. I will be writing a formal complaint to the board as I want something done about this it is not acceptable.
