I recently accompanied a friend to the walk-in centre in St Helens. She had a self-inflicted injury and was very scared and nervous about being judged and treated unfairly because it was self-inflicted.
First she was seen by two nurses in triage, a male and a female nurse. Both were brilliant. They treated my friend with the dignity and respect she deserved. They didn't pry too much, and were very understanding and friendly.
We were not waiting long and were called through to see a nurse to have it seen to.
Again this nurse was brilliant. Her name was Jane. She could see that my friend was in distress and was extremely supportive. She never tried to rush us out, she offered further support via psychiatrists and crisis team and she gave us both time alone when my friend became very upset.
All in all, the treatment my friend received, not just for her physical injury but also for her emotional distress was very good and much appreciated by both her and myself.
Those staff should be very proud of themselves, and I just wish they could be like that in A&E too!
Thank you!
