"Inadequate care or compassion for mental health issues "

About: Greater Manchester

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

A couple of weeks ago, my daughter went to see a GP at The Lakes Medical Centre, Timperley about her depression. She's 18 years old, and has been self harming for a while now. When she saw the GP, the attitude she felt she got was basically: if you were going to kill yourself, you would have done it by now. Luckily, she's having counselling from Trafford College and I'm encouraging her to run and cycle with me.

Running and cycling is how I'm managing my depression. I've been to some doctors at the Lakes about depression too, but I don't go any more because I feel they just fob you off with pills. I don't want to take pills, but I feel like no-one's listening to me. They don't want to know what you've been through. I don't think much of the doctors I have met round here.
