"We were expecting to attend Manchester ..."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Manchester)

(as a relative),

What I liked

We were expecting to attend Manchester St Mary’s at 17:00 on the 12th January 2009 to induce our fourth child. Unfortunately this was not to be, and at 17:01 on the 1st January our still-born, 6 pound 10 ounce daughter, was delivered.

Despite the sad circumstances of our attendance, the outstanding service we received from all your staff must not go unmentioned. We were treated like royalty by all. No request was too much.

the anaesthetist explained, and administered, the pain control options with care, precision and sensitivity. However the midwife, must be singled out. She was nothing short of amazing. Her knowledge, approach, and compassion were second to none. She stayed with us throughout the entire day and provided us our every need. Her clinical interventions, counseling and support and general ‘customer service’ were spot on. The examples are too numerous to mention – from providing a room for my prayer to giving my wife a selection of chocolates following the birth. We could not bear to take a photo of our daughter at birth but around three hours later then wished to do so. Emma went to three different wards to find a working camera and took the excellent photo herself.

If an award for outstanding staff exists, we would have no hesitation in recommending the staff for the highest accolade possible.

In closing, I believe than our healing from such a tragedy will be easier due to the care and compassion received from the staff at St Mary's Central Delivery Unit. Thank you all.
