I have been listening to various media inputs this week and the NHS has been slated, so I thought I would share something positive.
My Family was referred to CAMHS, Lanarkshire Motherwell, a few years ago when we were on reflection at breaking point. I am a kinship carer with 2 children who have complex attachment issues.
I was refereed to a psychologist, who on assessment advised that the way forward for our family was for me attend. At the beginning, my appointments were weekly, as our family required high and intense input to prevent placement breakdown. The psychologist listened without judgement or prejudice, and very quickly I trusted her.
For the past 2 yrs she helped guide me to understand my childrens' behaviours, she has worked with education when they have been struggling with the childrens' behaviours. she has helped me reflect on crisis situations and see light at the end of the tunnel. She has been coordinated other partners when I have been struggling with them.
We are not out of the woods yet but there are more positive moments that negative. I may only see this psychologist monthly or every 6 weeks now, however I know that if I am struggling or my children are struggling she is a phone call away. My family would not have made such progression without this doctor and CAMHS.
"Thank you to the CAMHS team"
