"Prostate Surgery"

I had re-sectioning of the Prostate and removal of Kidney and Bladder stones, all done in one operation. It was my first operation in my life and I am 77 years old. I was very nervous but my Consultant Urologist and my Anaesthetist were absolutely brilliant. They were kind, caring and listened to my concerns and put me at ease as I had my operation on the 20th May 2014. I felt no pain and drifted off to sleep to wake 1 1/2 hours later in Recovery feeling very well and I was ready to go home then ! I then went to Ward 20B and had to stay the night but the nursing staff were again quite outstanding and I received excellent care. The food was also fantastic and cooked to perfection. The staff told me that you had recently changed Caterers and, if so, you did the right thing. We had the trolley carrying Tea and Coffee around 7 times a day. The staff who carried out the cleaning again were very good and everywhere was spotless inn the Ward and Hospital. I was discharged on the 22nd May and I can only say that I have not felt like this for many years. No longer do I have to dash for a toilet but I can control the urge now and put if off. My record at the moment is I stopped the urge 3 times before I went ! I can now go on holiday with no worries and should not get any more urinary infections. Finally, I should like to say to anyone who is worried or frightened about surgery please do not. Go and see your GP and get your problems sorted by the Manor Hospital as I know they will look after you. You will not regret it. I can only say that my stay in the Manor was like staying in a 5 star hotel but without paying the bill. !! Bill Sirrell Ward 20B
