My dad who is 84 years of age and was admitted into hospital after a fall. We waited six hours for a bed with no explanation as to why there was a hold up. The nursing staff was clearly busy and stressed and this came over in their attitude towards us... We were clearly an inconvenience and nuisance. After six hours my dad was clearly uncomfortable and he raised our concerns with a nurse and asked for a cushion but the nurse was so rude. I understand that nurses are stretched to their limits but were is the compassion??? When my father was settled onto the ward things didn't get much better. He had to wait yet again for pain relief he only wanted paracetamol, he asked for a pot so he could go to the toilet only to be asked 'why do you need it', he wanted help getting into bed but this proved too much, a dressing on his leg was falling off but apparently nurses 'can't' changed the dressing because the district nurse put it there?? I realise that this is my dad's account only but it would be wrong of me not to rise these concerns. We have the upmost respect for the medical staff and what they do but our experience was not good and I would shudder at the thought of my dad being admitted into Preston again.
