About: Darent Valley Hospital

I have been suffering from a recurring abscess in a delicate area for 17months. After a visit to the on call gynae assessment team over Xmas It was recommended that I should seek advice from the urology dept as the abscess site was peri urethral. I was initially seen by a person who, after I explained the purpose of my visit, totally disregarded everything I said. He made me feel quite foolish for asking the question why did I needed an ultra sound of my bladder and a flexible cystoscope for a problem that was quite clearly on the outside of my body.he told me in a very condescending manner that he was a scientist and therefore exhaustive tests were needed for a proper diagnosis.I reluctantly went ahead with these tests only to be told by the doctor performing the cystoscope that my problem was definitely a gynae matter and he didn't understand why I was there. When I went back to the Poplar Centre for my discharge I saw a different doctor. His advice was go home, enjoy your children and job, and pray to god that the abscess didn't return. Unfortunately god wasn't listening as it has returned for the 11th time and I am back on antibiotics yet again. My GP has requested a referral to the gynae dept and I'm now awaiting an appointment.Given my previous experiences I am hoping for a more satisfactory outcome.
