"No change"

About: Leighton Hospital

I have left a previous review (to which I have yet to see a reply). But I found from my recent visit ( 3rd May) that things have not changed. I found it ironical that displayed in a corridor was it was vitally important to give medication to a patient with Parkinson's their medication on time, my medication for my condition has also to be very closely timed but I am frequently told that I must wait. This is all very well but the person taking the risk is me not the member of staff. Now I take in a secret supply to make sure I can have my tablets on time. However I dread the time I go in when like last year I am unable to fend for myself (last year I was in another hospital).

Response from Leighton Hospital

I am truly sorry that the experience you have had fell below the standards that we would expect. As a hospital, we have a consistent approach to the administration of medication and, as professionals, we have a duty to ensure that medication is administered safely in line with Trust policy. I would like to offer your reassurance that we always work to ensure we administer medicines in a timely manner. If this does not happen, then any incidents that are highlighted are investigated and actions taken to learn how we can improve experiences for patients. I would like to suggest that, should you need to access the services at Leighton Hospital in the future, you contact the Matron’s team for any assistance so that we can work with you to ensure that your future care experiences are of a positive nature. This would be a safer approach to managing your care than taking your own medicines from a secret supply that may cause problems with other medicines you may be prescribed when you are admitted. We genuinely do not wish for you to be afraid of coming into hospital. If you would prefer to discuss your concerns face to face then please feel free to contact the customer care team on 01270 612410 who will be happy to arrange a meeting with you. Laura Egerton, Matron, Emergency Care Division.
