My reason for doing this review is twofold. Firstly it's a thank you to all the staff in the departments I was referred to both at the Royal and Broadgreen Hospitals, but also to reassure anyone who finds themselves in my position. I had frank haematuria on 17th Jan 2014 I was referred to Broadgreen Urology to investigate the cause of the bleed. I was a day patient at the clinic and had a number of tests, including an ultra sound and a flexible cystoscopy. My dignity and comfort was obviously important to the staff, I didn't have to change into the gown until the last moment, I was in a single sex waiting room and had access to a tv and drinks which was a grateful distraction. I was dreading the whole thing, but on the day the professionalism of all the people who work there made the experience so much easier than I'd imagined. Staff took time to reassure me and explain how the cystoscopy works, which relaxed me a lot. The positive results helped but I would've felt safe in their hands if they did find a sinister cause for the bleeding. During the tests a second issue was picked up and as a result I was later referred to the Liver Clinic at the Royal. Again I found the whole experience to be positive, the tests were thorough, the staff supportive and very efficient. The whole issue was concluded within 4 months and I'm now discharged from the Royal and have a follow up appointment at Broadgreen in July. I've always been proud of the NHS but more so now after my first hand experience of it. So again I'd like to thank everyone involved in my case and reassure anyone who has to undergo these tests that they're in safe hands.
"Thank you"
