"Waiting times"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

On a weekend in May my son was in Kidderminster with two pals when he was assaulted. On waking up at home on the Sunday morning realised there was a problem with his jaw he took himself along to Worcester Royal hospital. He was x-rayed and found it was broken in two places. One clearly visible to the eye, his teeth did not line up at all. He was told to return at 9am Monday for an operation.

He did this after being nil by mouth from the said time. As you can imagine he was in agony and needed the operation promptly. He arrived to be told there was no bed and just had to wait. At 7 pm a bed was found, still in constant pain, still no operation. He spent the next day, still nil by mouth and in agony waiting for 'his turn'!

He did not get his operation until 4: 45pm Tuesday.

As I live in the North East I was in constant contact with him to try find out what was happening. I eventually rang the hospital to be told there had been lots of life & death emergencies!

I'm sorry but a visible broken jaw in two places, constant agony and nothing to eat or drink for two days, to me is an emergency.

Sorry but this service was not good enough.

Thank you for your comments, which we recently received after moderation by the Patient Opinion website. I am very sorry to hear of your son's assault, and the subsequent problems he experienced; if you would like us to investigate this, I would be grateful if you could provide his name and details to us at patientservices.dept@worcsacute.nhs.uk
