"My 88 year old father has bowel ..."

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

(as a relative),

Anything else?

My 88 year old father has bowel cancer and was admitted to Pinderfields about 3 weeks ago with a blockage. Although the nurses do the best they can, I'm afraid my father's experience was traumatic. He is doubly incontinent but when he used the buzzer to summon help, it was too late

by the time it arrived. This made him very embarrassed and upset. After a few days, the buzzer was always placed somewhere where he couldn't reach or find it. He went for an x-ray one lunch-time and missed his lunch but was told that he had had his lunch before going for the x-ray! The next day his lunch was placed so far away from him he couldn't reach it to eat it! Whenever I asked about his care the answer was 'I don't know, the doctor hasn't seen him yet'. I could mention many other things that left a lot to be desired - the food in particular. I'm glad to say that my father is now in a very comfortable place where he is being looked after with dignity, respect and a great deal of care. I just hope that he never has to go back to Pinderfields again.
