"Firstly I entered the hospital ..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Firstly I entered the hospital and I was met by cheerful helpful reception staff , I was directed to the department which was easy to find when I reached the orthapedic department I was met by very helpful and welcoming nursing staff who made me feel relaxed and they were also very polite and I was made to feel at ease , everything was explained and even I was able to understand what my treatment would entail , I was not rushed and I was made to feel like a person . I am a regular visitor to the Royal and everytime I have visited The Sunderland Royal I have always been treat the same ...except for one department ( which I will not name and shame on this occasion) but everyone else desearves a pat on the back and a big Thank You

What could be improved

I believe there is a language barrier between some patients and hospital staff , some patients do not have a clue what has been said and just agree because the Specialist/Dr whom they are seeing are not very clear due to a language breakdown I have witnesses and heard a heated discussions many a time all because of this problem( I am very sorry if some are offended by my comment but no malice is meant )

Anything else?

Yes I do not think a student should be allowed to visit a patients bed to ask personal questions unless the patients has been asked firstly by either a Specialist /Dr/ or ward sister for permission . I was approached by a student who asked personal questions about pensions or other monies which I have coming into my home each week, at the time I was not feeling very well as I had just had a surgical procedure done. I do not think the hospital needed this information as I was only patient for three days . But I do not think this issue would not be discussed with a young male student .
