Having previously not a not-very-positive experience at Wycombe, I was impressed by the quality of care my mum received having been admitted to ward 2A. The staff were great on a practical level - they were flexible and approachable to our family needs. I was sat around for a few hours last night (not their fault at all), and saw both day/night shifts and observed how other patients (other than my mum) were dealt with and treated while I was there. The patients were treated with dignity, care and respect, all served with a smile. They had their hands full too, managing an uncooperative patient who kept trying to escape, yet all managed to remain jovial and professional, doctors and nurses alike. I came home genuinely feeling like I had just observed a bunch of individuals who not only work incredibly hard, but who left me with a whole list of personality attributes I am frankly envious of! Such different characters, yet their attributes all just seemed to gel to create a really productive yet caring team. You could honestly see that the care wasn't just lip service - there were a lot of beautiful souls working in that department who really did care about their work. I left feeling glad that those who are vulnerable are in the hands of a really fantastic team :o) P.s. - A special mention for one member of staff in particular - such a beautiful lady - 14 hour shift and still a warm smile!
