"Having major surgery"

About: Western Isles Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I had never been ill in my life or been a patient. I am a Community nurse and was terrified when I was admitted for surgery.

I had two of the most amazing, kind and caring surgeons involved in my care and the nursing staff, domestics, pharmacists were all so attentive and kind. The thing that surprised me most was the fact that I had no pain at all after major abdominal surgery as the pain control was excellent. I could not fault my care in any way whatsoever and I met some amazing patients whom were all characters and we all had a great laugh together.

If I ever had to be a patient again in this hospital then I would have no fears whatsoever! !

The only thing which could be improved was the attitude and lack of concern from the staff member who took my bloods

Dear Community Nurse,

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you could not fault your care and that you would have no fears in being a patient again: though I hope you don’t have to be soon. I will be sure to pass on that feedback to the team involved in your care.

We were sorry to hear though that there was something which marred what looked like a generally good experience. Your point acts as a reminder to us all and we will take steps to discuss this with staff.

Thanks again
