"A thank you to the staff in the Zetland Ward"

My mam, who is in her eighties was admitted into the Zetland Ward for rehabilitation after an operation. When she went into the hospital she was weak and had lost her confidence with her mobility and was trying to recover from an operation she had due to cancer. All the Staff were very kind and encouraging with her and they all did their best to support her. The Nurses were always on the go and very busy as they had a lot of patients to support, but i always found that they would make the time for you if you needed to ask them about anything and were always willing to support as much as they could. The health care assistants were equally as helpful. The food was home made and of a very high standard and the staff serving the food could not have been more helpful. The cleaning staff were constantly on the go and inteacted with the patients, which was very positive. The support from physiothrapy was fantastic, and this meant that when my mam was discharged and came home she was much more mobile than she had been even before her operation. Communication and acknowledgment is important to patients and their family, and i observed the staff in this hospital doiing this well. I am pleased to report that my Mam had a very positve experience in this hospital and we can only thank the hospital staff and the NHS for providing this valuable service, as this meant that mam could return to her own home. Thank You

Good afternoon Elizabeth Thank you for your feedback in which you express your thanks for the care and treatment your mother received during her admission to Redcar Primary Care Hospital for rehabilitation following her surgery. I am pleased to learn that all staff provided support and your mother was able to return to her own home. I shall certainly forward your kind words to the staff involved, who I am sure will be very pleased to read them. It may interest you to know the trust runs a ‘Thank You Award’ scheme where NHS colleagues, patients and relatives can nominate staff in recognition of their work. These are presented throughout the year for acts above the call of duty or where staff have shown exceptional kindness towards patients and their relatives. Please contact the chairman’s office on 01642 854151 or email deborah.jenkins@stees.nhs.uk, should you wish to pursue this. Please pass on my best wishes to your mother. Yours sincerely Mrs Linda Oliver Patient Experience Co-ordinator
