"Dental service for child"

About: Montfield Hospital / Dental care

(as a parent/guardian),

Difficulty getting routine dental appointments for child after 'too old' for child smile, despite having problematic teeth and needing fissure sealants and other treatment.

Even when armed with letter from school inspection saying there was decay and to see dentist, still difficult. Had to have several emergency appointments for toothache and infection.

Emergency service very good- but service say they are unable to look at other teeth or do any kind of routine or prevention work. But still difficult to get routine appointment!

Told the 'diary is closed' for several weeks and then ( when diary is 'open') only appointment is several months away.

Can't help but wonder if a better routine and prevention service, would reduce visits to emergency service?

I am disappointed to read this article as Dental Services has been working extremely hard in recent times to improve access. I am pleased that our emergency service has provided the necessary care for this patient meantime.

We shall endeavour to make further improvements and hope that soon all of our patients may receive the service that they are seeking from a public dental service.

Thank you for contacting Patient Opinion and bringing this matter to our attention.

Mrs Margaret G Jamieson

Dental Business Manager
