"These fine people saved my life"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

I had a prolonged stay starting with a mystery infection which at first seemed like flu - I never had a chance to thank the "Shropdoc" doctor who recognised it was something more. Turned out to be a severe liver infection and I had a chance to enjoy the accommodation for a whole month. This happened just 2 weeks after my first child had been born, but the hospital were so accommodating allowing my family to visit me even out of visiting hours. The nurses on what was ward nine were so friendly and kind and caring, even though I was cluttering up their ward for so long! There was a violent patient during my stay, which terrified me in my helpless state, but they posted three security guards on him and all was good. In my view, the staff of this hospital are amazing at identifying and dealing with whatever comes along - and in a manner where basic human decency and kindness can come before rigid rules.

Dear "Anonymous" It really is inspiring that you have taken the time and trouble to share your experience with us after such a difficult period in your life with a prolonged hospital stay so soon after your first child was born. I am really pleased to hear that the team on Ward 9 were so friendly and caring - after a few weeks with them I am sure they felt you were part of the team too :-) I am also glad to hear that you felt that the experience with a troubled patient was well handled, and that overall you felt that human decency and kindness came first at all times. I will make sure that your feedback is shared with the team on the Ward, and as Shropdoc is provided by a different organisation I will make sure I "tweet" a link to this comment so that your thanks are passed on to their doctor who recognised your infection. Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to share this. Adrian Osborne, Communications Director
