"Staff levels are far too low and workers stink of..."

About: Warrington Hospital

The staff try hard on the whole but wards are badly managed with too many people acting like they are in charge. This place needs some decent ward managers in place. There are also too many patients per nurse and the poor nursing assistants are run off their feet. They should increase these staff numbers and give them a pay rise. The staff are lovely to each patient but to each other I'm not too sure. I think because they have too much to do they are constantly annoyed that they others aren't pulling their weight. Also a lot of the staff stink of smoke on their breath and uniforms. Its awful as a patient restricted to bed with that smell. I think they should not be allowed to smoke in uniform (or on shift really) but as a minimum, they should get changed as a rule. Even food retailers enforce this rule ! Low staff levels are the biggest problem here.

Sorry to hear your feedback. Like most trusts, we work to nationally agreed staffing levels designed to provide safe care on the wards and we've also invested in extra staff over the last year. The smoking however is something we can remind staff who do smoke about how it is perceived.
