"My experience of the A&E Dept and Ward 3 AMU"

About: Leighton Hospital

I had a potentially life-threatening emergency and so my experience involved both AE and AMU. Throughout my brief admission, I was treated with privacy and dignity and this extended to all the patients on AMU too. The staff appeared to work well together, especially the healthcare assistants on AMU. The night shift on 16th was extremely busy with numerous emergency admissions to the ward and I believe the qualified nurse-in-charge would've been under huge pressure and the risk of harm to patients would've increased. Thanks to fantastic teamwork with highly competent healthcare assistants, no such risk occurred. I was impressed with the promptness in attending to patients who requested assistance, particularly when needing the toilet. AE staff also appeared to work well as a team and I didn't experience long delays waiting to be seen nor waiting to be transferred to the ward.

Thank you for your positive comments . All teams working across the acute care services try very hard to ensure patients receive high quality personalised care. The teams are aware that attendance to hospital can be a very stressful experience for patients and consequently always endeavour to maintain the highest of standards for patients . Healthcare Assistants are essential to our team effectiveness and always work very hard to ensure our patients comfort . I will ensure your comments are shared with all the teams which are very much appreciated. Sue Talbot-Crosby, Matron
