I was invited to a noon appointment for a surgical procedure that was described as a day case (in and out the same day). The hospital room and staff were all pretty good, but the orgaisation was not. I don't know who organises appointment times and the surgical list, but this was done very poorly in my opinion. My surgery (general anesthetic and lots of pain relief) started at 5pm and finished at 6pm. That means I was nervously waiting around for 5 hours. I would much rather had that time after the operation to recover both physically and mentally. I don't understand what the point of waiting about before hand achieves for the patient. I also think that if you are a day case then you should have your surgery in the morning or early afternoon at the very latest. I gratefully left the hospital at 9pm, it had been a long day and I don't like hospitals. I was physically strong enough, but my body was still in a bit of shock from the experience and although I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer in hospital I would have been much happier to have had the operation earlier and had more time to recover (and still left by 9pm). The organisation is really poor. I could have come in later or on a different day, this hospital doesn't do accidents and emergencies, Organising appointments that suit both the patient and the hospital is not that difficult. This was totally organised to meet the hospital finances / staffs needs and wants and barely covered the patients needs. I am really surprised by how badly my appointment was scheduled. I think they can do much better.
