"quick service from the reception ..."

About: University Hospital Lewisham

(as the patient),

What I liked

quick service from the reception at the antenatal area of hospital.

What could be improved

Yesterday (12.01.09) I went to Lewisham hospital to do my second scan for baby. I have been checked by two members of staff.

Baby scan is normally very positive experience, exciting opportunity to see picture of your baby, share experience with family, get some pictures for future memories. Im carrying my second child now and I remember how much positive energy I can get from scan.

Scan which I experienced yesterday was a real suffer for me, I had tears in my eyes. Young person who was doing scan during whole 1 hour was trying to put so much pressure on my tummy - it was extremely painful, I had a feeling they were trying to squeeze out my baby. I mention my pain to them and asked not to press into my stomach with all their strength. The reply was if I have a pain for no reason, I should speak with my midwife about it, not to them. They gave me a look to keep quiet and dont talk to them any more.

Today I cant stop ctying, all my stomach muscles are hurting and its really painful to move myself.

Anything else?

I was too silly not to stop them in the first 5 minutes and walk away. I need to say for any mother who have to go for a scan to Lewisham hospital - you always have a right to refuse any scan, any procedure, any rude behavior from hospital staff. You have a choice. If something will go wrong you will blame yourself first. Hospital staff is never going to take your personal feelings into count, they have far too many things to worry without you.
