What could be improved

My father was admitted via ambulance with a very weak body and ashen experience. The junior A and E doctor was very helpful and seemed keen to find the problem. When she went to the A and E registrar for advice he told her that providing my father could ambulate (walk) he should be sent home. She was not happy with this and conducted further tests. Guess what! He was admitted as a result of her persistence and was found to need seven, yes SEVEN units of blood due to a GI bleed caused by a cancer! I wonder what would have transpired if the registrar had got his way?

Registrar - BAD!

Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased that your father's investigation was thorough and that he got the treatment he needed. What this whole episode goes to show is that our staff work in teams and sometimes there will be disagreement within those teams, but ultimately the doctor in charge of the patient makes the final decision on the course of action to be followed. In this sense, the junior doctor did the right thing and we are sure that this will have been fed back to her more senior colleagues within the A&E team as a learning point for all concerned.
