"Northumberland Psychological Wellbeing Service."

About: St Georges Hospital Site (Morpeth)

This service conducts consultations in this hospital using employees of this hospital . It is appalling. In other counties this service does not use a hospital setting as patients don't need to be hospitalised , requiring CBT not ECT ( as is offered at this hospital) . Notification of CBT in a hospital setting severely increases your level of anxiety ( what I have been diagnosed with. ) The initial phone call assessment also severely increased my level of anxiety. There is a standard questionnaire to complete but was initially asked an off-topic question. 'How likely is it that you would go out an rob a bank? , 1 in 1000 of our patients would go out and rob a bank.' Legally, of course, my phone assessor has not divulged private patient information data but has manipulated statistics sufficiently enough to probably be referring to one individual in particular. I would not like this to happen to my case history. I have decided to see a clinical psychologist privately instead of using this NHS which would always be my preferred option.

Following referral to the NTW Northumberland Psychological Wellbeing Service the person will be offered an appointment with a therapist. Usually the first appointment is by telephone but some face to face appointments are arranged based on the needs of the individual. The first appointment provides an opportunity for the therapist to ask questions about the person’s difficulties which will help us to determine which of our services will suit the person best. As part of this process the therapist will ask questions pertaining to risk which includes to self and others. In addition the service uses nationally agreed questionnaires to gather additional information from the person about how they rate their anxiety and depressive symptoms, if present. If it is agreed with the person that they may benefit from engaging in a programme of psychological intervention of which Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is one approach, how this will be offered will be agreed with the person. The service provides the majority of its therapy interventions in GP surgeries and Health Centres, however consulting rooms are accessed in a number of the Trusts bases across the Northumberland County. Some of the consulting rooms are in hospital settings but in the instance where this is unsuitable, this would be agreed with the individual. The Trust takes all feedback in relation to the services offered very seriously and would be happy to provide a more individual response if you would like to get back in touch with us. We can be contacted on 01670396130.
