"Turning Point - Smithfield experience"

About: Turning Point Substance Misuse Services / Smithfield Residential Detoxification Unit

(as the patient),

I was in this unit for three weeks while I underwent a detoxification programme to enable me to stop using prescription medicine - methadone.

I was worried about the regime when I went in but I had consistent support from the staff from the minute I arrived. The daily programme was brilliant and I feel that it was that good that anyone - recovering from self or prescribed medication OR NOT - would benefit from the work we did and coping mechanisms we learned.

I attended another short-term unit some years back and, frankly, it was rubbish! The clients were simply allowed to glorify their past lives and behaviour. The Smithfield unit was first class. Even the food was good!

A really constructive experience which I WILL recommend to anyone.
