"Seen by 4 members of staff - not one of them introduced themselves to us "

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

At a recent post surgery fracture clinic appointment, my son was seen by four members of staff and not one of them introduced themselves to us.

The plaster technician called my sons name and we entered the plaster room. He was told to sit down and put his arm on the table to the side. His bandages were then cut off with a large pair of scissors, the cast removed and the surgical dressing "ripped" off, all without a word of warning or explanation.

The doctor came into the room to examine the wound and performed a few tests to assess the stage of post op recovery. He asked for a focused rigidity casting cast to be applied. The clinic nurse groaned and pulled a face and made notes.

The plaster technician came back into the room viewed the notes and said they were not doing a focused rigidity casting at this time. The nurse informed us that it was always the last patient into clinic that needed this type of cast.

I asked what was special about this cast and an explanation was given. The doctor was consulted and the beginnings of a focused rigidity casting cast applied with a view to finishing it at the next appointment.
