"A new big toe joint "

About: Holme Valley Memorial Hospital

(as the patient),

After three successful cortisone injections into my arthritic big toe joint, the time had come for an operation as the pain was getting much worse. The surgeon, Mr Naismith, explained the options but recommended a new joint as I am a very fit 60 year old who loves cycling, Zumba, step and aerobics. I had the operation last week and I was pleasantly surprised because the local anaesthetic into my foot and the back of my knee were less painful than a dental one. The team were brilliant making me feel relaxed and very welcome. Mr Naismith kept me informed throughout. I have had no pain since, only discomfort from the stitches. One week on and I have had my dressing changed as well as being in trainers to give support. The swelling is minimal and by next week I should have the stitches out. I would like to thank Mr Naismith and his team for a job well done in every respect.
