"The SWICC's & Teals NA's ..."

About: The Great Western Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The SWICC's & Teals NA's are caring, helpful and hardworking. Teals nurses are approachable, hands on and caring.

What could be improved

After a 1 month stay in hospital my 86 year old mother was discharged from hospital at 19.25 yesterday evening. Transport was booked for after 16.00 but I NEVER expected her to leave the ward at 19.25. Surely there should be a cut-off point whereby patients are not sent home after a certain time of the day? My mother lives 5mins away from the hospital and I cannot understand why her journey home was not planned with more care. No amount of apologies will compensate for the hospitals inability to plan. Modern technology is available to make life easy why not employ it in this area? I feel traumatized by this experience because the evening did not end for me here but with the aftercare the patient needed upon her return. As one of the primary carer’s my journey has just begun and I do not know what lies ahead of me, I can only hope that it will not entail another hospitalization.

Anything else?

Parking fees - i have spent in excess of 200 hrs at the hospital (my choice) assisting mum with her eating, personal hygiene, putting her to bed i will leave it to yourselves to calculate what it has cost me in parking fees. Greed comes to mind.
