I came into the hospital as I was having removal of endometriosis. Throughout all of my out patient appointments I was cared for with dignity and my surgeons who in my opinion are the best you could ask for we're fantastic both before and during the surgery, my troubles started once I was transferred onto the ward for my post operative care, I was taken to ward 78 gynaecology. Initial night staff were excellent and tended to my every need as I was unable to move from the bed. The next morning at staff hand over the nurses were clearly discussing their views of other patients on the ward in front of me including saying how one of the women clearly didn't need to be there as she could get downstairs for a cigarette. I'm anti smoking, but I don't agree with a nurse who should be professional during her shift expressing such personal opinions so openly. The staff then were supposed to change my dressings.. I ended up waiting 10 hours until the night shift came back on as they were 'too busy'. (Talking and applying lipstick for the impending visit of the cameras and or staff who were filming on the ward that day). The cleanliness was disgusting, there was urine on the floor of the wc at 10pm, I was unable to bend down to mop it up when I went in so placed some paper towel over it and mentioned it to the night shift.... When going to the toilet at 6am the following morning the towels were still on the ground and no effort had been made to clean up the urine, It was also abundantly clear that my bed was required for another patient and I was actively encouraged to leave after 2 nights even though I was still very dependant on strong pain killers and I didn't feel ready to go home as was in extreme pain. During the journey home I became in severe pain and when I got home I rang the hospital as I was so concerned about my health. I was assured a doctor would call me back. This review is 10 days after being discharged and I still have not had a call back from the doctor! The good points are that some of the nursing staff, particularly the night shift are very attentive and caring, the food was outstanding and visitors are encouraged. Just very very poor nursing staff and cleanliness on the ward. I'm disappointed as was lead to believe that st michaels is the best place to be cared for...
"Excellent surgeons and pre op care. Terrible post..."
