I had a subtotal hysterectomy on 17 April. Within an hour of being on ward I had a reaction to morphine and vomited repeatedly over 7hrs causing a significant bleed from my wound. I asked for alternate pain relief but kept being told to press my pump but told them no as it's making me sick. Given anti sickness via iv. No alternative pain relief till following day then given codeine. Friday had 3 different bloods taken as staff kept missing off info for cross matching blood for my transfusion, not great when have a needle phobia, left waiting hrs for pain relief constantly, given a bad bath as covered in blood from night before. Food disgusting, cold and undercooked at times or too dry, inedible. 3am Saturday morning asked for pain relief left till 0610, no meds from 10pm night before. Asked to remove catheter and cannula as was going to discharge myself due to total neglect on the ward, lovely junior lady doctor managed to convince me to stay for my blood transfusion but had to take another blood sample as again something missing and rejected by blood bank. Staff asked if I wanted a shower I said yes, came back an hr later and told too busy and dumped a bowl of water on my table and left towels out my reach, was still attached to drip and catheter at the time and had to ask a mobile patient to pass me my towel. I told them I was going home Sunday whether they approved or not, but was given the all clear to go home. Told a district nurse would visit on the Friday to check my bruising, and that I would be seen again in clinic due to my bleed. The hospital failed to make a referral, spoke to district nurses who said they wouldn't come out for bruising as nothing they can do. 3 weeks post op today and heard nothing from hospital regarding post check. I would avoid this hospital as serious lack of care and I am escalating this further as no one should be treated this way. When questioned just told not enough staff as it's bank holiday and dealing with new admissions and discharges, so those of us still on ward were neglected and I voiced this at the time.
