"No confidentiality"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Absolutely disappointed with Medway Hospital when comes to patients confidentiality. My husband had a big operation at Medway Maritime Hospital and despite we both request to not give any information over the phone to anyone apart from his next of kin regarding his operation or his health as it happened in the past the Wards just give to anyone that phones patients very private information, It was 1.27 in the morning when I reveived a call from a family member stating that the Hospital phone them and asked if that person could pass the message to me his wife that the operation was successful because they did try to ring me and couldn't get through to me. My husband was so upset as the way would a Hospital member of staff going through his phone and pick randomly a person from his phone book and call to give such private information despite him begging to phone his wife and let her know about the operation? Myself and my children are utterly disappointed with this situation and all I can say is that Medway Hospital needs to review given any type on information over the phone to anyone. My daughter did a experiment and phone the hospital asking very private information about my husband without even identify herself anf a member of staff from SAU gave without any hesitation. Can you please tell me how is that possible?

The Trust takes patient confidentiality extremely seriously. Every member of staff is required to undertake information governance training annually to remind them of the need to maintain patient confidentiality.
