"Very poor diagnosing skills of trained medical..."

I bought my son in during the Bank Holiday weekend, having explain via telephone that I thought he needed antibiotics as he had injured his mouth, banged his teeth hard and had a very swollen mouth with painful gum. I explained that his tooth had a temporary cap on following an accident, so was concerned he may have an abscess as the tooth hurt to touch. The swollen area had increased from the time he had woken up - and had appeared about 36 hours after he had hit his mouth. He was seen by a nurse who said it was a mouth ulcer, and sent us away with nothing - despite him telling her he'd been using bonjela and painkillers overnight, which weren't having much effect. Obviously with Sunday and Bank Holiday, we couldn't see anyone else, so he spent 2 days in a lot of pain, using an ice pack to numb his face. Today he had an emergency appointment - xrays were immediately taken and he was diagnoses with an abscess and has penicillin and antibiotics and 2 further appointments for more treatment. The dentist took one look at him, and immediately diagnoses without even looking any closer. I won't be going back to Doddington in future - would rather drive to Huntingdon for a professional diagnosis.
